16 Global Fashion Exhibitions Happening in 2016

In 2016, global fashion exhibitions are tackling key subjects like underwear, menswear and streetwear. Technology is a main focus with two related exhibits at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston as well as the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 7. Museum of Bags and Purses, Amsterdam

Street Couture

This exhibition examines differences between haute couture and global street fashion, showing the influence of streetwear on fashion designers.

Miyake Issey Exhibition: The Work of Miyake Issey

200 Years of Australian Fashion

This is the first major survey of Australian fashion, which will examine how geography, seasonality and culture affect Australian designers.

11. Jewish Museum, New York



Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History
March 18 2016 – August 7 2016
This exhibit explores Isaac Mizrahi’s prolific and varied career, which spans the fashion, film, television and performing arts industries.

12. Les Arts Decoratifs, Paris



Fashion Forward, Three Centuries of Fashion (1715 – 2015)
April 7 2016 – August 14 2016
Drawing from the museum’s large archive, this landmark exhibit will showcase 300 items of fashion history arranged in chronological order.

Magnus x Machina

The Costume Institute’s newest exhibit explores technological advances in the fashion industry and juxtaposes the handmade with the machine-made in fashion.

This exhibit looks beyond the flapper dress of the 1920s, exploring a range of influences and items worn during this opulent and decadent time period.
